Resin Bond wheels
are manufactured using either phenolic or polyimide resin
for grinding very hard materials which conventional abrasives
cannot manage.
The phenolic are
for lower stress, cooler cutting applications and the polyimide
for higher stress more wear resistant applications. Available
with Diamond or CBN.
The main advantages to Resin
Bond are:
In the case of phenolic, many of the bonds can be used
without coolant.
Resin Bond is generally cheaper than metal and vitrified
bond.
Resin Bond can achieve extremely fine finishes when
used with micron diamond.
Typical applications
are from tool and cutter grinding, through to deep flute grinding
of
solid hard materials (polymide)
